3 Tips For Creating a Beautiful but Functional Playroom On a Budget
MONTESSORI STYLE
If you’re here then you’ve probably seen dozens of dreamy playroom inspo pics on Pinterest too, but might be wondering how to actually create one for your little one (without breaking the bank)
In this blog post I’ll be sharing 3 tips to help you create a beautiful, but functional playroom that will help your little one to thrive. Links to all of the items used to create this space will also be shared at the end.
Tip 1: Choose a practical space
As tempting as it may be to use that extra space in the basement as a playroom, it’s likely to go under ultilized if it’s somewhere you don’t naturally frequent.
Also consider avoiding doubling your toddler's bedroom as a playroom. It can disrupt bedtime routine and may cause your child to associate the room with play rather than sleep.
We decided to use the formal dining room area in our home for our daughters playroom and it’s worked really well. It’s just off the kitchen so allows me to cook whilst keeping an eye on her as she plays independently.
Tip 2: Shop Second Hand
Flipped Facebook market place table
Before chairs being painted
Buying children's furniture secondhand is a great option because kids outgrow it fast which leaves many people looking to get rid of items in very good condition. I was able to snag my daughters table and chair set on Facebook market place for $40, I simply spray painted it white and was able to save myself over $150!
Our toy storage unit was from facebook market place and almost all of the books in our playroom are from Goodwill.
Thrifting items for your toddlers playroom will require some patience and sometimes a little DIY but it’s totally worth it for the money saved and sustainability impact. I was able to create our dream playroom with under $250!
Tip 3: Create distinct Stations
Cosy reading corner
Having separate stations will not only keep your space looking cohesive and organized, but it will also help your little one move seamlessly from activity to activity.
One of our favorite stations has become the ‘cozy corner’ - The affordable Teepee is from Amazon and it has created a space for my 2-year-old to ‘read’ her books and catch her breath (we all know how big those toddler emotions can get.
A final note
Beyond having a beautiful playroom, children thrive when they are loved so if you aren’t yet in the position to create a dream playroom for your little one, you’re still amazing mama x
